Bespoke Engagement Rings, What to Expect and Why Choose Handmade
Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most personal decisions you will ever make. For those who want something truly unique, a bespoke handmade ring is the answer. Here is everything you need to know about the process.
What is a bespoke engagement ring?
A bespoke engagement ring is one that is designed and made specifically for you. Rather than choosing from a selection of existing styles, you work directly with a jeweller to create something completely original. Every detail, from the shape and setting to the metal and finish, is chosen by you.
At Milly Maunder, every bespoke piece begins with a conversation. We want to understand not just what you want the ring to look like, but what it means to you.
Why choose a bespoke ring over a high street option?
High street rings are beautiful, but they are made for everyone. A bespoke ring is made only for you. It carries your story, reflects your personality and will never be worn by anyone else in quite the same way.
There is also a practical argument. A bespoke ring is made to fit perfectly from the start, in the exact metal and style you want, with no compromises.

What is the process at Milly Maunder?
The bespoke process at Milly Maunder typically follows these steps:
An initial consultation, in person at our Devon studio or via email. We talk through your ideas, inspiration, budget and timeline. There is no pressure and no obligation.
Milly will sketch initial design concepts based on your brief. These are shared with you for feedback and refinement until the design feels exactly right.
Once the design is approved, Milly hand makes the ring in her Devon studio using traditional techniques including her signature granulation work. Depending on complexity, this typically takes between 8 and 12 weeks.

What metals and stones are available?
Milly works in solid gold, both 9k and 18k yellow gold and white gold, and sterling silver. Please note that Milly is unable to work with platinum.
For stones, she works with a range of diamonds including white, salt and pepper and rough cut diamonds, as well as other precious and semi precious stones. If you have a stone you would like to incorporate, perhaps an heirloom diamond or a stone with personal significance, Milly can work with that too.

How much does a bespoke engagement ring cost?
Bespoke rings vary in price depending on the metal, stone and complexity of the design. Milly works with a range of budgets and will always be transparent about costs from the outset. The best way to get an accurate idea is to get in touch with your brief and budget.
How far in advance should I get in touch?
For an engagement ring, we recommend getting in touch at least three months before you need it. This allows time for the design process and making, without feeling rushed. For peak times such as Christmas and Valentine's Day, earlier is always better.
Is a bespoke ring right for me?
If you want something completely unique, made by hand with genuine care and skill, then yes. A bespoke Milly Maunder ring is not just a piece of jewellery. It is something that will be worn every day and passed down through generations.
