What is Permanent Jewellery and How Does it Work?
If you have been seeing permanent jewellery popping up everywhere lately, you are not alone. It is one of the fastest growing jewellery trends in the UK and for good reason. Here is everything you need to know.
What is permanent jewellery?
Permanent jewellery is a piece of jewellery, usually a bracelet, anklet or necklace, that is welded directly onto your wrist, ankle or neck without a clasp. Because there is no clasp, it cannot be taken off accidentally. It stays with you until you choose to remove it.
The result is a beautifully fitted, completely seamless piece of jewellery that feels like it was made for you, because it was.
How does the welding process work?
At your appointment, your jeweller will measure and fit the chain around your wrist, ankle or neck, leaving just enough room to be comfortable. The two ends of the chain are then fused together using a small pulse of energy from a laser or micro welder.
The process takes just a second and you will not feel a thing. The weld is virtually invisible and you would never know it was there.

Does permanent jewellery hurt?
Not at all. The welding process is completely painless. Most people are surprised by how quick and easy it is.

How long does permanent jewellery last?
With proper care, permanent jewellery can last for years. Sterling silver and solid gold are both durable metals suited to everyday wear. The key is to treat it gently, avoid pulling on the chain and follow your aftercare guidance.
At Milly Maunder we offer a one year warranty on all permanent jewellery. If your chain is lost or breaks within the first year, we will re-weld it for you at no cost. After that, re-welding is available for a small service fee of £10 for sterling silver and £30 for solid gold.
Can permanent jewellery be removed?
Yes, whenever you choose. A small pair of scissors is all it takes to cut the chain. It simply cannot come off accidentally, which is the whole point.
What styles are available?
At Milly Maunder we offer a range of sterling silver and solid gold chains, each with its own character. From delicate everyday styles to chunkier statement chains, there is something for every wrist. You can also add charms for a personal finishing touch.
